The feeder above may (on very rare occasions) allow European Starlings (EUST) to enter.  A modification to the design can be seen below, click on a picture to see a larger view.  Details on the link EUST Problems.

dadBB.JPG (37911 bytes)No sooner than I built this new feeder, the Daddy Bluebird was on top of it.  He protected it from all other birds!  Mostly he fed the Mom Bluebird in the nestbox.  He also fed the babies when the eggs hatched.  After the babies fledged, they came back in a couple of weeks with their parents to feed...

feeder2.JPG (56800 bytes)Here the feeder is being used by Dad to feed a baby.  Another baby is on the other side waiting!  Adults and babies loved this feeder, it was safe and accessible.  

BabyOnFeeder.JPG (42077 bytes)A baby is on the feeder waiting for Dad (who is inside the feeder,) to bring some mealworms to eat.  Later, the babies learned how to enter the feeder and eat on their own...
